"This is a Nietzsche-level situation!"
The Drain is a satirical contemporary theater piece where the simple and mundane turns apocalyptic. The project aims to boil down the complexity of current global crises into everyday situations of magic realism that the audience can relate to. Aesthetically The Drain is inspired by the absurd plays of Samuel Beckett, the magic realism of Roy Andersson, Terry Gilliam and Franz Kafka and the cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft.
Originally developed as a laboratory production at CISPA, Copenhagen, in October 2021, and later performed as an expanded version at the Behold! International Theater Festival 2022,
The Drain investigates our temptation to turn a blind eye to the ugliness surrounding us, the need for comfort that attracts impending doom and the hilarious absurdity of human behaviour trying to earn a clear conscience. The project was conceived when we stopped finger pointing and started asking ourselves the questions: what do I take for granted, what do I expect from life and what is the hypocrisy of my own actions?
